Therapeutic Tai Chi: Harmonizing the Three Centers

Two key exercises for strengthening body integrity and communication are named after the energy and sensitivity of the Chinese performing arts.

10:00 am - 12:30 pm "Activating the Three Internal Spaces"
Inspired by the moment in Beijing Opera where actors spread their arms wide to reveal the full glory of their costume, the great gesture “Raise Hands” opens the whole body to energize the spine, release the back, shoulders and hips, free the breath, and invigorate the channels with radiant qi, whether performed solo or partnered. Appropriate to all students.

1:00 - 3:30 pm "Harmonizing the Abdomen"
“Strum the Lute” is inspired by the dynamic tension between the upper and lower hands of the musician engaged in playing the stringed pipa; this exercise harmonizes yin and yang to strengthen the abdomen, limbs and digestion. Appropriate to all students.
