Therapeutic Tai Chi: Harmonizing the Three Centers

with Tim Regan, MA

Two key exercises for strengthening body integrity and communication are named after the energy and sensitivity of the Chinese performing arts.

10:00 am - 12:30 pm "Activating the Three Internal Spaces"
Inspired by the moment in Beijing Opera where actors spread their arms wide to reveal the full glory of their costume, the great gesture “Raise Hands” opens the whole body to energize the spine, release the back, shoulders and hips, free the breath, and invigorate the channels with radiant qi, whether performed solo or partnered. Appropriate to all students.

1:00 - 3:30 pm "Harmonizing the Abdomen"
“Strum the Lute” is inspired by the dynamic tension between the upper and lower hands of the musician engaged in playing the stringed pipa; this exercise harmonizes yin and yang to strengthen the abdomen, limbs and digestion. Appropriate to all students.

Help for Helpers Session 3

This is a 3-part Realization Process workshop for practitioners, teachers, and/or care providers that gives tangible practices for how to be in service to others without burning out.

Those of us in caregiving fields often find that we are left processing other people’s “stuff” after they have left the office. Whether that shows up as fatigue, burnout, or overwhelm, it can be a challenge to deal with.

Others of us may play the helper role more in our personal lives than within our profession, but the symptoms remain the same.

The Realization Process is a series of practices for opening the body, heart and mind to nondual reality. By embodying fundamental consciousness, you can let go of your fixed patterns of self and other, so that they actually dissolve. This provides an enduring transformation which can persist, even during reflexive thinking, intense emotion and while relating with other people.

Classes will be 90 minutes and focus on awareness practices for deep embodiment of the self, and how that directly translates to how we show up relationally in the world- whether with clients or outside of work.

Return to Spring: A Sheng Zhen Workshop with Dr. Mark

Return to Spring, is a standing form of moving meditation qigong with associated contemplations that reflects the harmony found in nature.

Through the practice, the practitioner can return to a natural state of ease, harmony, and balance.

This practice moves with qi. Breathing should be natural. Go into a space of emptiness. Enter into nothing. In your heart and in your mind everything is perfect. No good. No bad. No happy. No worry. Go back to your natural state. Then you can begin this practice.

This practice is like giving oneself a massage, tendon and ligaments are strengthened, and joint mobility is greatly increased. These movements are especially good for your hips.

Return to spring means to return to a youthful state, this practice is helpful for longevity.

Intuitive Movement with Beth Furman

Intuitive Movement is a movement/meditation/healing experience that is a soul satisfying journey towards your deepest sense of well being.  Weaving together energetic mapping through the chakra system, while exploring other modes of alignment and body awareness, the work is an experience of both strengthening the musculoskeletal system to help us hold ourselves with clarity, while releasing what might be stuck to make room for what helps you feel whole and more creative.

You will move a lot and yet have experiences of deeper stillness and surrender. You will shake and squat and twist and bounce. You may even dance a little (or a lot).

Warning: From this work, you may have a bit more bounce to your step, feel lighter and find yourself not needing your GPS in quite the same way as you hone your senses and find yourself navigating through your life effortlessly.

For all levels of movement experience

Introduction to the Grief Recovery Method with Julie Blitzer

The Grief Recovery Method (GRM) is an action-oriented educational program designed to help grieving people complete the pain, isolation, and loneliness caused by a death, divorce, or other types of losses. GRM was created in the 1980s by a griever, John James who suffered several significant losses and struggled to find a way to relieve his emotional hurt. The GRM Institute offers the program around the world and has helped countless people re-discover the ability within themselves to transform the quality of their life after experiencing a loss.

The group program meets once a week for eight weeks. The meetings offer participants an opportunity to share their feelings in a safe, non-judgmental environment so that they can take the steps to heal. Participants are required to complete reading and homework assignments that involve guided reflection on their losses and relationships.

Julie Blitzer is a Grief Recovery Method (GRM) Specialist, mom, and community builder. She founded Authentic Matters (authenticmatters.net) as a vehicle to offer personal coaching, movement and meditation classes, and self development programs for women. She is dedicated to helping people realize the highest version of themselves, and has found that GRM is a powerful tool for healing along that journey.

Healing Gong I & Heaven Nature Contemplation

Sheng Zhen Healing Practice is a restorative medical form that blends an ancient tradition with gentle, meditative movements performed seated on a chair. Sheng Zhen Healing Practice is an integration of healing traditions, using the power of Nature to heal oneself. What is the essence of the practice? The practice leads one to the original state that abides in every human being. One comes to experience the opening of the Heart and the stillness of the mind. This form is loved by many for the physical and mental benefits it has bestowed upon them.

The practice of Heaven Nature Practice gifts the practitioner with the experience of the sacredness of one’s body. The grace that is developed in the practice is simply a reflection of the true nature of the human Heart which is full of compassion and innate goodness. As the qi flows through the body through the practice, little by little, it does its work of opening the Heart of the practitioner, releasing the blockages, dissolve physical and emotional pain.
